Certified Medical Coder - Inpatient

Exceptional Healthcare is seeking a certified medical coder to join its growing team. This role is onsite with a Mon-Fri schedule at our corporate HQ - 3514 Cedar Springs Rd, Dallas, Texas 75219. It reports to the Coding Manager. What Will You Do? Review and abstract inpatient medical records Identify and assign accurate medical codes for diagnosis, procedures and services for inpatient stays Ensure all data required for federal/state reporting and billing are captured in patient record Review of records for diagnosis/procedures; code using appropriate standards; and seek appropriate reimbursement for hospital and professional charges. Collaborate with providers when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting guidelines and brings identified concerns to manager for resolution Effectively assigns DRG and ICD-10 codes Meet established productivity standards while keeping abstracting errors to a minimum Abides by ethical standards of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adheres to official coding guidelines What will you need to be successful? A minimum of 2 years on hospital inpatient experience Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding Must have the ability to work independently Ability to regularly work with compliance and auditors to ensure records are up to standard Effective written and verbal communication skills (English) E xperience with 3M software is preferred Analytical skills necessary to interpret data contained in the health records and to assign appropriate codes Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and surgical terminology Critical thinking, good judgment and decision-making skills Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures affecting the coding process What are the benefits?
