SERV, a well-established leader in behavioral healthcare in New Jersey, supports people with mental illness and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities as they achieve greater independence and life satisfaction through a wide range of services. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Quality and Compliance, the Compliance Auditor performs routine operational, clinical and human resource audits to review and assess programs’ compliance with all regulatory requirements. The Auditor will facilitate all reviews by outside auditors and regulators (Office of Licensing, Medicaid, workers compensation, 401k, and will perform special projects and analyses as needed. Responsibilities Maintains thorough knowledge of and subject matter expertise on all regulations applicable to all programs throughout the SERV organization (NJ DMHAS, DDD, DCF, Medicaid, CARF) Under the supervision of the SVP of Quality and Compliance, monitors changes in applicable requirements and ensures policies, procedures and job descriptions are updated as required Conducts frequent spot audits of personnel files in the HRIS system, incident reports and workers compensation files. After each new hire class, audits each personnel file to ensure all licensure, qualifications, experience and background requirements are satisfied and all required documents are maintained in the file. Ensures all personnel files are complete, compliant and audit ready at all times Monitors compliance with the annual performance evaluation process and follows up where needed Audits for clinical and medical documentation by examining records for residential, outpatient, and supportive housing programs through New Jersey Develops and refines efficient processes for organizing and preparing records for audit Coordinates information requirements for external auditors Monitors to ensure compliance with random drug screening requirements per Stephen Komninos law Monitors and provides “checks and balances” to ensure monthly compliance checks are performed by appropriate departments (including Central Registry, Motor Vehicle) Consults on all transfers, promotions and new positions to ensure qualifications and experience align with regulatory requirements and the candidate meets the requirements Communicates effectively and cordially with regulators and outside entities during audits Communicates audit progress and findings by summarizing and preparing reports for leadership. Minimizes disruption to operations and impact to program resources and personnel from audit demands Evaluates and summarizes results of audit, assists in writing audit reports, memoranda or corrective action plans and completes follow-up work for recommendations made during the audit. Maintains tracking system of all deficiencies and monitors implementation of corrective action plans. Proactively identifies and analyzes potential risks within specific areas of the organization in order to avoid significant compliance issues. Additional duties as assigned or as needed to support departmental or organizational goals Qualifications & Skills Ability to interpret and apply regulations and crosswalks Ability to navigate stressful situations with maturity, confidence and a calm demeanor Ability to build credibility and trust in interpersonal relationships Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include long hours Ability to motivate and influence others to accomplish objectives Ability to respond with flexibility and efficiency to frequent changes in task focus, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information Ability to research, formulate logical conclusions and/or alternatives, make recommendations, and implement solutions Ability to work quickly and accurately under minimum supervision with close attention to detail. Keen analytical skills with the ability to see big picture impact Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, database, e-mail, and Internet applications Required Licenses or Experience Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management, Human Resources Management or equivalent field, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 3-5 years experience in a role involving auditing, statistical analysis, reporting, and/or quality management.
