If you get excited about building new things and working across discipline lines, then our team might be your next career step.As a member of the Quantum Platforms Engineering team, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will help ensure that Google Quantum AI's fleet of quantum computing systems can be built efficiently and operate reliably, ensuring a high velocity for research and development on quantum platforms. You will design manufacturing, assembly, and related test processes as well Design for Excellence (DfX) practices for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) -based electronics, microwave components, and wiring. You will seek opportunities to graduate in-house procedures to manufacturing, continuously improve the lead-time and quality performance of key partners, provide technical input for our supplier strategy, and lay the foundations for a manufacturing engineering team.Google Research is building the next generation of intelligent systems for all Google products. To achieve this, we're working on projects that utilize the latest computer science techniques developed by skilled software developers and research scientists. Google Research teams collaborate closely with other teams across Google, maintaining the flexibility and versatility required to adapt new projects and foci that meet the demands of the world's fast-paced business needs.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering, a related field or equivalent practical experience. 3 years of experience with designing manufacturing lines and processes for PCBs. 3 years of experience with defining DfX processes for radio frequency (RF) electronics and PCBs. 3 years of experience with optimizing vendor manufacturing practices. Preferred qualifications: Experience with assembly and test of microwave and PCB electronics in a manufacturing setting. Experience with collection, storage, and analysis of data from remote automated test systems. Experience with hiring and management of manufacturing and manufacturing test engineers. Familiarity with Linux-based environments and scripting, electromechanical assembly processes, microwave test and measurement techniques, and cryogenic equipment. Responsibilities Design manufacturing, assembly, and related test processes for microwave and electromagnetic components used in Google's fleet of quantum computing systems. Define DfX practices applicable to designers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers for PCB-based electronics, microwave components, and wiring. Provide technical assessments of and guidance to vendors on manufacturing capabilities and process relevant to quality and lead times. Monitor and continuously improve the manufacturing performance of key partners. Identify additional manufacturing engineering and production test roles needed as the quantum fleet evolves and grows.
