ABOUT THE POSITION The County of Riverside's Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks to fill multiple temporary Spanish Bilingual Nutritionist positions to support the Department of Office on Aging . The incumbents will be responsible for participating in Health and Nutrition consultations and assessments, collecting information regarding the overall health and nutrition situation and needs of older adults, including meals analysis to meet current dietary standards. They will also be responsible for implementing awareness sessions for older adults and outreach communities at large, conducting onsite kitchen facility inspections for Senior Nutrition Providers, and ensuring that support provided is appropriate and reaching the most vulnerable older adults. To be considered for this position, you must have the following criteria listed below * Possession of a valid California driver's license. * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economics, Health Science, or a closely related field. * Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a dietitian issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. * OR Registered Dietitian (RD) eligible and must take and pass the registration exam conducted by the Registration Commission of the American Dietetic Association within six months of the hire date. * One year of professional experience in nutrition education and individual counseling services within a community or public health setting. (Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of required experience.) Meet the Team! TAP Benefits: https://rc-hr.com/temporary-medical-assignment-program-tapmap https://issuu.com/rivcohr/docs/hr_flipbook_1-24-23_r3 EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Implements, coordinates, promotes, and evaluates the nutrition component of specialized community and public health programs and projects. • Develops and implements basic programs of instruction in diet therapy, nutrition, and diet counseling techniques for program and project staff; develops needed nutrition education materials. • Teaches and counsels people of various age groups to select and/or prepare and use the foods that will best nourish their bodies, taking into consideration physical, financial, social, and emotional needs, as well as personal preferences and cultural patterns. • Performs nutritional assessments on individuals prior to enrollment in programs; determines, through application of various published standards, whether individuals are at nutritional risk. • Gives direct nutritional and dietetic consultation to individuals with special nutritional needs; plans and reviews menus for nutrition sites where meals are prepared and served for program participants. • Conducts studies to determine the nature and extent of nutrition needs and problems of the population served and to evaluate the effects of nutritional and dietetic services being offered to participants. • Contacts health professionals and makes presentations to relevant parties in the community in order to promote the services being offered through the nutrition component of specific department programs. • Oversees and participates in the preparation of required records, reports, and evaluation on nutrition component activities for specific department programs. • Provides technical training and functional supervision for program staff assigned to the nutrition component. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economics, Health Science or a closely related field. Experience: One year of professional experience in nutrition education and individual counseling services within a community or public health setting. (Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition or a closely related field may be substituted for one year-required experience.) Knowledge of: The chemical and physiological processes and functions of specific nutrients in meeting people's nutritional needs throughout the life cycle; the principles of food selection, purchasing, preparation, processing, and meal planning in relation to appeal, cost, nutritive value, and quality; a variety of dietary patterns and the particular food requirements of maternal, geriatric, economically disadvantaged, physically handicapped, and other groups having special nutritional needs; health-education methods as they apply to the field of nutrition; typical community sources of nutritional data and aid. Ability to: Implement a community public health nutrition program; analyze the nutritional content of diets; develop and present nutrition education programs; advise and train employees and clients on how to recognize and deal with various dietary and nutrition problems; develop and maintain effective working relationships with health professionals, community health organizations, co-workers, nutrition program participants, and other groups and individuals encountered in the course of the job; write clear, concise reports and correspondence and maintain complete records. License of Certificate: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a dietitian as issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. OR Registered Dietitian (RD) eligible and must take and pass the registration exam conducted by the Registration Commission of the American Dietetic Association within six months of hire date. Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required. Upon request, must be able to provide proof of a valid California Driver's License and current auto insurance coverage. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting. (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from County employment.) As an Approved Local Merit System, all County of Riverside employees, except those serving "At Will," are subject to the probationary period provisions as specified in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, County Resolution, or Salary Ordinance. MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). * Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent. * Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent. * Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. Effective July 1, 2023 employee contributions are 7.25% and will increase to 7.75% effective July 1, 2024. A new member is defined as any of the following: A new hire who enters CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who has no prior membership in any California Public Retirement System. A new hire who enters CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who was a member with another California Public Retirement System prior to that date, but who is not subject to reciprocity upon joining CalPERS. A member who first established CalPERS membership prior to January 1, 2013, and who is rehired by a different CalPERS agency after a break in service of greater than six (6) months. CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".
