Your Specific Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of an Environmental Manager, is responsible for conducting environmental health inspections and investigations of regulated establishments for compliance with public health statutes and rules. Thisposition confers with engineers, public officials, and community leaders. When a violation of Administrative Code or threat to public health is identified, this position initiates and then uses progressive legal enforcement to seekcorrections. Appropriate documentation of the investigations and case work performed is essential. Inspects public swimming pools. Investigates water:borne disease outbreaks and environmental sanitation complaints. Conducts interviews, takes statements, collects evidence, and prepares investigative reports for serious violations. Confers with and educates owner and civic groups about significance of disease control, sanitation, and health regulations. Maintains inspection activity data and prepares administrative reports. Acts as Lead Worker in Pool Program. Responsible for training other inspectors in this program. Point of Contact for Pool Program. Maintains food hygiene certification and conducts inspections of institutional food establishments. Investigates food:borne disease outbreaks and environmental sanitation complaints. Conducts interviews, takes statements, collects evidence, and prepares investigative reports for serious violations. Confers with and educates owner and civic groups about significance of disease control, sanitation, and health regulations. Maintains onsite sewage treatment and disposal system (OSTDS)certification. Inspects on:site sewage treatment and disposal systems. Monitors permitted wastewater systems for compliance with environmental and sanitation regulations as assigned. Investigatesenvironmental nuisance complaints and initiates enforcement action where indicated. Inspects aerobic treatment units and collects samples for laboratory evaluation. Maintains records and files of inspections and applications/plans. Collects beach water samples and maintains files of beach sample results Inspects biomedical waste generators, mobile home parks, group care facilities, tanning facilities, tattoo facilities and body piercing facilities assigned to this position. Enforces applicable regulations and initiates legal action as required. Maintains records and files of inspections. Acts as Lead Worker in Body Piercing Program. Responsible for all inspections and maintenance of program as well as maintaining certification as Body Piercing Coordinator for Monroe County. Primary Point of Contact for Monroe CHD. Investigates sanitary nuisances, potential rabies cases, and assists with Small Quantity Generator verifications. Maintains and improves professional knowledge and skills through continuing education, review of environmental publications, internet, participation in monthly staff meetings and staff development activities. Acts as Environmental Health representative in place of Environmental Manager in Lower Keys area. Gives interviews as required when requested, after approval from PIO.
