The Department of Public Works designs, constructs and maintains provincial highways, public buildings, bridges and other related infrastructure. With a mandate to provide the safe and efficient movement of people and goods, the maintenance and upkeep of our 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges is paramount to our core responsibilities. About Our Opportunity Reporting to the Pavement Management Engineer, Highway Construction Services, the Pavement Evaluation Technologist provides expert technical knowledge and skills in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electronic/electrical and mechanical systems used in specialized roadway test vehicles, Falling Weight Deflectometer, survey equipment, ground penetrating radar, distance measurement instruments and other specialized systems used throughout the province. This person coordinates and completes the data collection using the Falling Weight Deflectometer and Ground Penetration Radar including processing. Your work will take you throughout the province and allow you to interact with various other department personnel. Primary Accountabilities This position coordinates and completes the data collection using the Falling Weight Deflectometer and Ground Penetration Radar including processing and develops quality control/quality assurance programs and coordinates regular service intervals for all such equipment to ensure its proper functioning. The Pavement Evaluation Technologist is a key player in the evaluation of current processes and in investigating and recommending adoption of innovative technologies to further enhance the quality and serviceability.
