Date Posted: 08/18/2023 Req ID: 33541 Faculty/Division: Uof T Mississauga Department: UTM: Historical Studies Campus: University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Course Description: This course introduces students to women's position in Canada as political actors and provides gender-based analysis in relation to public policy and law in Canada. Students will study women's historical participation in and exclusion from policy decision-making processes, and evaluate the impact of feminism and women's activism on Canadian public policies. Using intersectional framework, the course will also examine different ways in which public policies can be made more responsive to gender and diversity concerns as well as the role public policy can play in overcoming gender inequalities. We will investigate key historical changes in public policies affecting Canadian women in such areas as family, workplace, education, poverty-welfare, interactionuality and reproductive laws, immigration and refugee laws, and global issues. The course concludes with women's achievements in this area. Estimated Course Enrollment : 50 Estimated TA Support : 50 hrs Class Schedule : Thursday, 3-5 Hours of Work: Thursday, 5-7 Sessional Dates of Appointment : September 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023 Salary : $52.76 per hour Please note that should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Qualifications : Applicants will have a Masters or Ph. D. in Gender, Feminist and/or interactionuality Studies or a closely related discipline. A Ph. D. degree in Gender, Feminist or interactionuality Studies is preferred. Previous experience in a similar course is desirable. Description of Duties : Demonstrated effectiveness as a teaching assistant, academic qualifications in Women, Gender, and/or interactionuality Studies or a related field, ability to introduce students to a diverse range of approaches,.
