Advisory Lawyer Job Description The Office of the Advocate General, a UK Government department comprising the UK Government’s Scottish Legal Team based at Queen Elizabeth House, Edinburgh EH8 8FT is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join their Advisory and Legislation Division as an Advisory Lawyer. As an Advisory Lawyer, you will have the opportunity to provide legal advice to the UK Government on Scots Law and devolution, gain exposure to the workings of Whitehall, and understand how the UK and Scottish Governments interact to deliver legislation, policy, and public services in Scotland. Responsibilities Advising the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland and a variety of other Whitehall Departments in relation to devolution and Scots law aspects of UK legislation throughout its preparation and Parliamentary progress. Instructing Scottish provisions when required and advising departments on legislative consent motions in the Scottish Parliament. Managing the process of delivery of Scotland Act Orders and where necessary providing support to Ministers at the relevant Parliamentary debates backssing the legislative competence of Bills before the Scottish Parliament and advising the Advocate General for Scotland on any issues arising. Engaging with a variety of colleagues in Whitehall Departments whilst maintaining productive relations with colleagues in the Scottish Government Legal Directorate. Providing advisory support to the UK Government when required in respect of litigation in the UK Supreme Court.
