Job Description:Job SummaryThe Production Unit Manager provides strategic direction, leads, plans, directs, and coordinates manpower, activities and physical assets in accordance with overall company guidelines and operating principles. The incumbent is responsible for all manufacturing and logistics activities, material movements and inventory accuracy of the assigned manufacturing plant(s). The role reports directly to the Plant Manager and is a permanent member of the site Leadership Team.Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Responsible for safety performance of the operating areas and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. * Ensure compliance to standards, safe operating and quality procedures and work instructions. * Responsible for effective and efficient operations of assigned manufacturing plant(s). * Ensure plant performance meets and exceeds business goals and internal/external customer requirements. * Plan, develop and control budgets and resources to ensure most cost-effective production of high-quality products for timely delivery to customers. * Recommend and solicit feedback for and approve changes to address any deficiencies, deviations and variances to ensure plant goals are accomplished. * Directs all manufacturing plant functions from inbound freight, receiving, warehousing, inventory, work in progress, process order management through outbound freight, etc. * Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the process. * Drive site capital projects to improve asset reliability, increase capacity and/or enhance operational efficiencies. * Present reports on plant performance, project updates and other related matters to senior leadership. * Conduct scheduled 5S audits and reinforce housekeeping. * Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. * Maintain competitive production facility, motivated workforce and direct fixed and variable cost reduction programs. * Proactively seek ways to improve business processes, technology changes and "best practices", and opportunities to enhance production technology, process flows, operating and tactical plans. * Effectively communicate specific objectives and goals for each subordinate. * Hazardous waste management duties as assigned to be completed in compliance with RCRA and DOT regulations. * Attend site leadership meetings as required.Capability Requirements * Thinks in terms of process with clear understanding of inputs, outputs and process. * Organized facilitator with strong communication skills. * Quickly grasps complex production processes. * Manages many competing priorities simultaneously. * Takes initiative in managing assigned responsibilities. * Prioritizes work according to business sense and priority. * Understands when and how to escalate issues to management.Knowledge / ExperienceTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in manufacturing environment. * 15+ years of operational experience with progression in various capacities. * 5+ years in a leadership role in chemical manufacturing areas and equipment. * Demonstrated experience of 3+ years overseeing multiple production functions simultaneously. * Experience with OSHA PSM requirements and working with hazardous/flammable chemicals. * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient with computer applications including MS-Office Suite and SAP S/4 enterprise system (required). * Good knowledge of budgeting, expense control and financial analysis. * Conceptual leader with strong analytical skills and know-how to organize work. * Results oriented while maintaining eye on detail. * Excellent networking skills and communication skills. * Lean/Six sigma green belt certification (preferred).Our Company:Axalta has remained at the forefront of the coatings industry by continually investing in innovative solutions.
