As a member of the Inmarsat Government Chief Technical Office (CTO) team, the objective of the role is to support the CTO team in delivery of new and unique satellite communications (SATCOM) capabilities through systems engineering best practices and hands-on design, integration and test.Inmarsat Government is a world leader in global, mobile satellite communications, providing the industry's most extensive portfolio of global narrowband and wideband connectivity services and managed network solutions to users on land, at sea and in the air. Primary Purpose of the Role: The SATCOM Systems Engineer is responsible for leading troubleshooting and systems engineering efforts in support of development projects on Inmarsat Government's roadmap to ensure the satisfaction of our core internal and customer stakeholders. In this role, you will work within CTO Integrated Product Teams to develop, evaluate and validate latest Ka-band and L-band antenna and product technology. The successful candidate will apply systems engineering expertise toward integration, deployment and field support of mobile SATCOM terminals operating within a global satellite network. Responsibilities: This role will support SATCOM product development and lab testing. In this position you will ensure the end-to-end performance meets customer's requirements and is ready for commercial launch while ultimately serving as a subject matter expert during in-life phases. Support troubleshooting and resolution of operationally deployed and development product and service solutions. Lead customer demonstrations of SATCOM terminals and equipment. Prepare the equipment for demonstration and delivery. Lead product integration, test, certification, and transition to production and product launch. Prepare test reports based on test and troubleshooting activities and present to leadership and internal/external stakeholders. Work within collaborative teams comprised of development engineers, operations, supply chain, integration & test, and procurement. Review engineering data packages and provide technical feedback. Support RFI activities for multi-vendor solicitation of new product development. Work with the team to create statements of work. Set up and maintain the lab environment in support of testing and on-site customer demonstrations Work alongside technical subject matter experts and CTO leadership to flow down market requirements to detailed product and service requirements for development. Draft, finalize, and maintain project schedules for the product development efforts. Required knowledge and skills Bachelor's Degrees in STEM field and/or 3+ years of experience Proficiency in satellite or wireless systems engineering including experience with integration and deployment of mobile systems. Familiarity with antenna and RF design principles Proficiency in authoring test reports and summaries. Strong Interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplined teams in the delivery of highly complex solutions. Experience decomposing embedded system log files into a visual medium to support product design and troubleshooting Familiarity with Very Small Aperture (VSAT) and other SATCOM and/or wireless technologies Knowledge and application of configuration management best practices. Desired knowledge and skills Proficiency with networking fundamentals including IP addressing, subnet mask and default gateway, DHCP Client/Server, and VLAN tagging Experience with RF link performance analyses and link budgets Familiarity with mobile SATCOM operations and the implementation of DVB-S2/TDMA Experience with Inmarsat Global Xpress and BGAN waveforms, terminals, provisioning, and service.
