Position: VP, GBM Legal, Legal Department Purpose Provides expert and high quality legal advice and counsel to Senior and Executive Management primarily within Global Banking and Markets with respect to business activities, transactions and regulatory initiatives, to ensure that business results and objectives are achieved in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, guidelines and best practices and Scotiabank Group’s overall corporate governance. Accountabilities Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Provides expert advice and counsel to Senior and Executive Management with respect to the Bank’s business activities and transactions by: Providing high quality legal research, analysis and advice on the most complex activities to the executive team; Identifying and backssing legal risks and developing strategies and options to mitigate risk and protect the Bank’s interests; Interpreting legislation impacting the area; incorporating legislative changes into the business’ policies, processes, practices and documentation; Researching legal issues of high complexity on a global, national or regional basis and informing executives on developing legal trends and their impact on operations and providing recommended courses of action; Directing the activities of external counsel in relation to all of the foregoing; Identifying, managing and resolving legal and contractual issues and concerns; Preparing, reviewing and approving legal opinions of a policy nature; Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal business units and senior management teams.
