Are you seeking a career in Public Health?Summit County Public Health is looking for student/temporary workers to help in the Mosquito Program. The Mosquito Control Tech is a part-time position. The position will perform programmatic activities including conducting field inspections and collecting samples. The position will work under immediate supervision to help set the worker up for success in the role. Job Duties: Investigate mosquito complaints in an assigned area Inform residents of steps for mosquito abatement Mosquito surveillance Larviciding for mosquito breeding sites Reading and maintaining accurate maps and data Responsible for various program equipment May perform evening adult mosquito spray treatments utilizing a truck mounted sprayer May assist in data entry or research May assist with special mosquito spray applications as needed Basic Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (students pursuing a degree in science/health preferred) Valid driver's license, reliable automobile, liability insurance on vehicle and clean driving record Basic understanding of biology or science Ability to respond to questions and concerns from general public Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a normal office environment as well as in various work sites which involve potential exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, insects, wildlife, unpleasant smells or odors and excessive levels of dust, dirt and other elements of typical outdoor work. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, pesticides, toxins, raw sewage or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, carry or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequent standing, talk or hear, walk and sitting required. The employee may lift items up to 80 lbs.
