Description:

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a non-profit membership organization, has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Cataloging and Manuscripts Assistant. This individual will assist with the creation and maintenance of MARC catalog records, provide support to the manuscripts division with describing collections, and work with patrons at the library reference desk on a regular basis. The DAR Library is one of the top genealogical research libraries in the United States and has over 200,000 physical volumes and more than 5 million images in our online databases. Additionally, we have a significant collection of manuscripts, and special collections of family bibles, maps, and other ephemera. This is a unique library focused on genealogy research, and an excellent opportunity for an early career librarian with an interest in special collections. Responsibilities: Assists the Cataloger with the creation of catalog records for new items and update existing MARC catalog records to meet current cataloging standards and DAR Library classification standards. Assists the Manuscripts and Special Collections Librarian with the arrangement and description of new and existing manuscripts and special collections. Physically processes books as needed. Provides reference services to researchers on a regular basis at the Library's reference desk. Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in history or related subject is required. This is an entry level position, and we are looking for at least a year of experience in a general library setting. MLS/MLIS preferred, experience or coursework in MARC cataloging also preferred. Familiarity with archival arrangement and description highly desired. Experience with OCLC Connexion desired. High proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel; ability to learn and use specialized programs and databases. Flexible with changing work assignment demands. Incumbent will be required to lift and reshelve books and materials of a variety of weights and sizes. Ability to prioritize and manage a variety of different tasks. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
