Texas Tool Belt is working together with Battle Ground Texas to hire Deputy Field Organizers About Battleground Texas:Battleground Texas is a Political Action Committee dedicated to civic engagement and voter registration as tools to build stronger communities. We believe that regular people like us can significantly impact elections, and we’re expanding the electorate by registering voters and mobilizing Texans to engage in the civic process. Job Description:The primary responsibility of a Deputy Field Organizer (DFO) is to organize in their communities and neighborhoods by registering and turning out those new voters. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to: Planning and executing voter registration events inside and outside for several hours; Registering voters at community events and locations; Blockwalking in neighborhoods to register voters; Recruiting volunteers; Building relationships with community leaders; and Entering data into EveryAction database and ensuring data integrity This job traditionally requires the ability to carry folding tables weighing approximately 35lbs, set up canopy tents, occasionally crowd canvass at events for several hours at a time, and participate in neighborhood canvases which involve a lot of walking. Time in this position will be split between site-based voter registration like tabling and clipboarding at community events and canvassing door-to-door in neighborhoods to register voters. You will be required to report to the office at the beginning of your shift and report back to the office after your shift is over. We strongly encourage all applicants to be vaccinated to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.Essential Duties: Become a deputized volunteer registrar in Collin County and the surrounding counties; Canvass door-to-door for voter registration in target neighborhoods and precincts using MiniVAN smartphone application or similar smartphone application; Organize in-person voter registration drives and related events, including setting up voter registration booths and tables and canvassing for voter registration at community events like parades, festivals, and rallies; Organize canvases in specific precincts for the purpose of voter registration which may require an average of 1-2 miles of walking outside; Recruit and manage volunteers for voter registration events; Follow all Texas Volunteer Deputy Registrar rules including turning in all forms within 5 days of collection; Work with existing volunteer teams and community leaders to support their development and organizing goals; Check in with manager at beginning of canvassing shift and check out when shift is complete; Regularly enter and review data in our database; Meet metrics-based goals as set by organization leadership; Other duties as assigned to support the department and mission of Battleground Texas Skills & Qualifications There are no formal education requirements for this position Authenticity in your commitment to organizing as a means to build power for communities of color and young people in Texas Commitment to Battleground Texas’ mission and our organizational values, goals, and objectives Experience growing up or working in diverse communities and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and empowerment Ability to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) in multiple counties.The state requirements to become a VDR are as follows: 18 years or older U.S. Citizen Not have been determined by final judgment of a court to be without the right to vote Not have been finally convicted of a felony, or if convicted, must have fully released from the resulting disability to vote. Never been convicted of failing to deliver a voter registration application to a voter registrar Experience using databases to track and review data Experience planning, setting up, and staffing events Volunteer management Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license Familiarity with EveryAction, Mobilize, Google Suite, and other campaign databases Attention to detail when reviewing documents, organizing personal workspace, and tracking & transporting voter registration forms You’re a great fit if, in addition to the above, you: Have previous experience canvassing or knocking on doors Love to meet and exceed personal goals you set for yourself Use checklists in your personal life and/or enjoy color coding Have a preferred, tried and true method for organizing large stacks of paper or literature Can register voters in multiple languages Have spent many years in the community you’re applying to work in Compensation: DFOs will be compensated $22.00 per hour, and shall not exceed 30 hours per week. Time Commitment: This is a part-time position,with an expectation of 20-30 hours a week.
