Lecturer - Department of StatisticsUniversity of California, BerkeleyThe Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach the following courses should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester including summer sessions, depending upon the needs of the Department. Positions may range from 33% to 100% time.Teaching Responsibilities:We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach one or more of the following courses(see http://guide.berkeley.edu/courses/stat/ for the course description):STATISTICS 2: Introduction to StatisticsSTATISTICS C8: Foundations of Data ScienceSTATISTICS 20: Introduction to Probability and StatisticsSTATISTICS 21: Introduction to Probability and Statistics for BusinessSTATISTICS 33A: Introduction to Programming in RSTATISTICS C100: Principles and Techniques of Data ScienceSTATISTICS 131A: Statistical Methods for Data ScienceSTATISTICS 133: Concepts in Computing with DataSTATISTICS 134: Concepts of ProbabilitySTATISTICS 135: Concepts of StatisticsSTATISTICS 150: Stochastic ProcessesSTATISTICS 151A: Linear Modeling: Theory and ApplicationsSTATISTICS 154: Modern Statistical Prediction and Machine LearningSTATISTICS 155: Game TheorySTATISTICS 159: Reproducible and Collaborative Statistical Data ScienceGeneral Duties:General duties include developing syllabi, assignments, writing and grading exams, supervising teaching assistants, holding office hours, and maintaining a course website. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.Minimum Qualifications (at time of application):The minimum qualification to be considered an applicant for the position is the completion of all the requirements for a PhD (or equivalent international degree), except the dissertation by the time of application.Additional Qualifications (by start date):An additional qualification is the completion of PhD (or equivalent international degree) by the start date.Preferred Qualifications:PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field. Documented experience in teaching Statistics or a related field at the college level.Salary:Minimum current rate is $56,381, based on a two semester, 100% time appointment. Salary commensurate with experience. Some credit given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer session teaching).UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.The Department of Statistics is interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching or research.Letter writers will receive a URL from the online system through which to upload their letters.
