A Day in the Life of a Project Civil Engineer You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You lead, support, and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconfigurations in highly urban settings to full intersection reconstructions to better serve users of all modes. You use programs such as MicroStation or Synchro, in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. Qualifications of a Project Civil Engineer : Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering Professional engineering license OR willingness to work towards one 5+ years of experience developing construction documents for roadways or highways A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus and specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO) Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation InRoads, MicroStation OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layout Experience developing construction documents, cost estimates Exposure to construction management is strongly preferred Interest in multimodal and active transportation design is preferred You'll be great here if: You have strong leadership skills and enjoy participating in multi-disciplinary teams You are passionate about sustainability and the opportunity to work on challenging multimodal projects that make communities more livable You enjoy producing high-quality work products and seeing your projects get built You have strong communication skills, whether written, verbal, or graphically You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills Work Schedule for a Project Civil Engineer : This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. This position is part of our full-time, on-site staff augmentation contract we have with the City of Austin's Transportation Department. Since 2017, a team of Toole Design engineers and planners have provided full-time, on-site staff augmentation to the City of Austin's Transportation Department to deliver Mobility Bond projects. We are creating a new, standalone Austin office to complement this team by working on a range of planning and design projects across Texas, many of which are already underway. The contract supports the Bikeways, Safe Routes to School, Sidewalk bond programs, and Transit Speed & Reliability work in partnership with the Capital Metro Transportation Authority.
