Position Description Summary APT Research is hiring a Senior Explosives Safety Engineer to support our contracts in Huntsville, AL. We prefer for the candidate to live in Huntsville, AL, but will consider remote placement if needed. Responsibilities will include a variety of tasks related to explosives safety. Responsibilities include, Leading data analysis, explosives effects and consequence modeling, technical writing, and other engineering-related tasks Develop and provide training and assist in large-scale explosives testing Must be comfortable analyzing problems that cross traditional disciplines, then conceiving, developing, testing, and defending solutions Using and developing technical software The ability and willingness to support occasional large-scale testing efforts which involve extended temporary duty travel (TDY) and full days of light outdoor work in arid or humid environments The person must be comfortable with public speaking in technical settings and leading task groups Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision Note: This position will not involve handling explosives directly. Required Experience/Education : 8+ years of experience in related positions with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in explosives engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or similar applied science field An advanced degree could be substituted for some years of required experience Security Clearance Requirement: Active security clearance not required but must be able to obtain one. Preferred Experience: Explosives safety, particularly explosives effects and consequence modeling A Master of Science (MS) degree from an accredited college or university in explosives engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or similar applied science field Professional Engineer (P.E.) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Software development experience, including Julia, Java, Python, C++/C# Essential Job Functions: Work Environment : Field testing and office environments Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers Ability to travel domestically and internationally in support of testing and meetings Physical Requirements : Test support requires extended standing/walking and light labor, potentially in arid environments May require sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk Other Essential Functions: Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, lead investigations and studies, lead task teams, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgement Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others EOE/Minorities/Females/Veterans/Disabled APT Research is an Equal Opportunity Employer and pro vides reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans in its job application procedures.
