Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting Analyst

Description:
Provide support for the ERP system (Infor) upgrade, including configuration, training, report development, testing and validation of the new version. Provide backup support for the maintenance of the current ERP version as well as the preparation and compilation of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's monthly financial reporting package and various other governmental and regulatory agency reports that contain both financial and statistical data. Develop and maintain reports and underlying database queries, including on demand and supporting reports used for financial analyses not included in the monthly operating report. Prepare and/or review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, assist with variance analysis, and perform miscellaneous other accounting duties as required. The ideal individual for this position is detailed oriented, results focused, and meets deadlines. The position requires an advanced understanding of general ledger accounting and reporting systems. A solid understanding of accounting principles with the ability to apply accounting standards to reporting requirements (e.g., preparation of cash flow statements) is also required. Must be able to complete tasks with a minimal degree of supervision. Job Duties: Provide support for the re-implementation/upgrade of the ERP system (Infor), including configuration, training, report development, testing and validation of the new version. Go-live date currently projected for late summer/early fall 2024. Prepare and/or review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, assist with variance analysis, and perform miscellaneous other accounting duties as required. Assist with the compilation of reports and supporting schedules for inclusion in Oglethorpe Power Corporation's monthly financial and statistical operating reports and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings. Prepare and compile financial statements and schedules included in Rural Utilities Services (RUS) filings in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Perform various financial analyses and data verification checks to ensure the accuracy and reasonableness of data, as well as ensure all reports are prepared in a timely manner. Prepare various other analyses and reports as requested by accounting and non-accounting associates, including the Corporation's independent external auditors in support the annual financial audit and quarterly reviews. Respond to various information requests and questions from other associates and the external accountants. Assist with the development and maintenance of general ledger account hierarchies that meet management, statistical and regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain reports and/or underlying database queries using various reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects) required for standard reporting as well as ad hoc reports. Assist other associates with developing and maintaining their reports and/or queries. Assist with the setup and maintenance of various elements within the general ledger system (e.g., accounts, department codes, opening accounts); run various batch jobs; investigate error suspense transactions and out of balance conditions; ensure data from sub-systems properly interfaces to the general ledger and generally monitor system functionality. Create and maintain documentation of significant job responsibilities for business continuity. Required Qualifications: Education : BBA or BS in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field Experience : 4+ years of progressive accounting experience and/or financial system support. Equivalent Experience : 2+ years of public accounting experience. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities : Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the corporation. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Advanced knowledge of financial systems and/or reporting applications (Infor and Business Objects a plus). Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneous. Experience in the automation of accounting tasks a plus. Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations : CPA certificate or candidate preferred, but not required. Unusual Hours : Job may require extra hours and/or weekend hours at month-end and quarter-end closes with a heavier concentration of hours during the year-end close and audit.
