Phlebotomist Full Time Evenings

Description:
Position Overview: Responsible for performing venous blood draws on both inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Ensures that all blood and other samples are properly labeled and distributed to the appropriate location for processing. Knows all related paper work: computer entry, report retrieval, mailing reports, etc. Performs macroscopic urinalysis, microbiology procedures, stocking supplies, running errands and general cleaning. The Phlebotomist is responsible to the Phlebotomy Supervisor, Lab Manager and the Pathologists. Essential Functions : a) Draws capillary and venous blood specimens for testing on newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. b) Enters orders in to the computer and processes related paperwork. c) Routes blood samples to appropriate departments. d) Performs macroscopic urinalysis, sets up microbiology cultures. e) Centrifuges and pours off send-out specimens. f) Retrieves and prints and/or faxes reports and monitors batch collection list. g) Performs Courier duties as needed. h) Transport of clinical samples to laboratory from outlying clinics and physician offices. i) Delivery of laboratory results and supplies. j) Safely operates a vehicle to perform duties. k) Operates the telephone, beeper, and hospital call system. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Qualifications & Skills: a) Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. b) Training & Experience: Previous work experience in medical field. c) Job Knowledge: Previous work experience in medical field.
