The Senior Propulsion Engineer will support the JETS II contract supporting NASA's pursuits in deep space exploration. RESPONSIBILITIES: Review system architectures, hardware requirements, designs, assembly procedures, test plans, procedures and data of Commercial Crew Vehicle Propulsion Systems to ensure approaches are sound, component/material selection is appropriate for the intended usage, and suitable for the proposed application. Provide recommendations for program acceptance of requirements verification, testing, and hazards. Provide recommendations for improvements to system architectures, hardware requirements, designs, test plans, and procedures if disparities/deficiencies are identified. Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from test data. Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions. Travel as required in support of technical reviews and exchanges. Work both independently and in a team environment. Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity. Perform other duties as required. REQUIRED: This position has been posted at multiple levels. This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information. Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree. Minimum 10 years of spacecraft propulsion experience with a focus on mechanical aspects. Experience in the design, assembly, testing, certification, and operation of space propulsion systems and components. Experience coordinating space propulsion systems requirements verification and validation between multiple organizations. Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, testing, and office software. Confident in knowledge and experience, and able to discuss propulsion topics with subject matter experts. DESIRED: Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures. Familiarity with the NASA JSC Engineering Life Cycle process. WORK LOCATION: This position offers a 9/80 schedule, every other Friday off. STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS: Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite. All of Bastion's employees must be team players. Able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives. Must have a strong work ethic and must be safety culture oriented. Must be organized with good time management skills. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. Will work with, and around, standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.). Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time). ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED: All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check, some positions require a clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process. DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED: All Bastion employees must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen; some contracts require participation in periodic random drug and alcohol screening programs.
