We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Islington to assist with the appointment of a Community Services Lawyer , on a 3-month contract , likely to be extended at clients discretion. Summary: To provide proactive advice and assistance in relation to Community Care work To have conduct of a substantial Community Care case load and to act as advocate on behalf of Council Responsibilities: To provide specialist and pro-active legal advice and assistance on all aspects of Social Services matters (including in particular community care/mental health, Judicial Review, asylum, and a limited caseload of some childcare and adoption etc work). To undertake advocacy where appropriate. To advise on the Councils powers and its decision making process and assist in ensuring the legality of its decision making. To consider and give advice on committee and other similar reports and to attend committee. To assist with client liaison, provide client and Chief Lawyer with regular updates on case load and to input data as required for reporting purposes and to draft reports as required. Qualifications & Experience: Admitted solicitor or qualified barrister. Experience of advocacy and of dealing with complex social services matters including childcare, community care/mental health, asylum, adoption etc. Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
